A question we get quite frequently is “What are pieces every woman should own in their closet?” One of our first answers is always a Little Black Dress. You simply cannot do wrong with an LBD for any occasion. They are work appropriate, perfect for a date night and excellent for a dinner with Mom and Dad. And LBD is versatile and incredibly classic which is why every woman should absolutely have one, if not two hanging in their closet!
I bought this LBD a few months ago at Aritzia (Wilfred Free) and I have been obsessed with it every since. I wore this on a date night and it was so perfect- especially with my snakeskin Schutz! I love a good LBD with a twist, hence the great back. I love the halter in the front and the simple almost backless part of the dress (LBD in the front, party in the back!) Hope you all Enjoyed your weekend, have a fabulous week!!!

We really, really love a good crew neck sweatshirt y’all. We’re not quite sure if its the comfort of the sweatshirt or whether it reminds us of elementary school (how cute were we with embroidered crew necks) but crew necks are an absolute staple in our closets come Fall and eventually into Winter & Spring. #CrewLove for sure!
As many of our readers know, we truly enjoy mixing feminine and masculine pieces- which is why a crew neck is a perfect layering piece. Typically, a crew neck screams masculinity. But paired with a killer fit an flare skirt, you’ve got one great outfit. Another fun way to wear crew necks its to layer them on dresses, or underneath an overall dress- wear with sneakers for an extra sporty look! In Winter- obviously a skirt may not be the best pairing piece, but your crew can still act as a great layering tool. We love to wear it under a large coat or pair a loose hoodie underneath for extra warmth! The great thing about crew necks, or just sweatshirts in general, is that they truly come in any style you want- you can go crazy out there for Kenzo, classic print in Tibi or graphic in Sincerely Jules. Another favorite crew neck brand is Nation LTD (see our post Bold x Bright for one of our favorite, simple crew necks ever!!)
Where do we even start with graphic tees. They have made a complete turn around since a few years ago. We used to think of them as our high school sport tee shirts, but now they have transformed to be totally chic and sassy. Also, nothing is easier and more fun than a graphic tee. You can basically wear what you are thinking!
Graphic tees are one of the most versatile pieces in your closet. You can wear them to run errands with ripped jeans and sneakers as Lauren did, or you can dress them up with a printed skirt, pumps and be ready to go out to dinner. We think when you pair unexpected pieces it is so fun and fashionable! Try experimenting with what you pair your graphic with. As we move into fall there are so many great options! We are wanting to try a graphic with a midi skirt.
Another great thing about graphic tees is you can find one that speaks to you. You can pick a graphic based on your mood. Some of the tees we have seen are pretty sassy and perfect for those days when you do not want to be disturbed! For us, we especially love Wildfox for graphics since most of their sayings about mermaids speak to us (haha). But you can find graphic tees literally ANYWHERE! Lauren scored hers from Old Navy, which surprisingly has very chic tees for great, great, great prices!
What graphic will you pick?

When we think about fall, plaid immediately comes to mind. If you couldn’t tell from our previous posts, we LOVE plaid! We almost consider it a neutral, that’s how easy it is. Recently we have been seeing a lot of celebs wearing plaid flannels around their waists (see our Red October post) and we love to do it too. It breaks up the outfit and adds some dimension. Additional plus- flannels actually keep you warm when the sun goes down! They also come in a variety of fits. You can go for a boyfriend fit that is a little baggier, casual, and great for layering, or a more tailored collarless top to wear to work. Tailored button up plaid tops totally plays into the menswear trend we are seeing right now!
Plaid doesn’t have to be a top or a flannel. We have been seeing plaid pop up in accessories, such as scarves and shoes. We love the slip-on sneaker trend and fell in love with the Rebecca Minkoff printed slip-ons below. And as with every season, plaid scarves start making a comeback in fall due to their coziness. We have to say throwing one on in the morning can make everything a little better!
You can find plaid everywhere!! Let us know what you have been WAiSTEDD on and where to find it! We would love to hear your feedback!
I have to say, for the longest time I wanted a pair of Red Octobers. I was willing to spend whatever for them. Alas, my bank account has not gotten any bigger nor have my other responsibilities gotten any smaller so I still do not have the Red Octobers. Luckily for me, however, I found these amazing Supras for the time being (I’m totally obsessed with a red shoe- such a pop. Even cooler that this is a sneaker!)
This look is one of my favorite casual looks to wear- ripped denim, sneakers, a flannel and gold jewelry. I’m not sure why- but I am always drawn to this type of an edgier look which is very much inspired by the street style of last year. I am such a sneaker Fein (which many of you probably don’t know because I wear heels so often in our posts) and its great to play around with different casual looks and feel edgy. Lauren and I are so experimental in our fashion sense and love to play around with different looks- this was definitely one of those times. This isn’t a look I would wear all the time, but it’s fun to try on different looks that represent different facets of your personality (currently blasting Drake… hmmm…). We always. always. try and have fun with fashion- never take it too seriously! I mean really though, who wants to look the same all the time…..
So it’s almost the end of September, and even though the weather has been fantastic, we are starting to notice the days getting shorter and the nights getting a little cooler. I have been debating recently whether a dress will keep me warm or if I need jeans for dinner outings, making it even more difficult to get dressed! This weekend when I went to Oktoberfest by the Bay, I was happy to have on jeans and booties by the end of the day, but wished I had worn a dress when I first got there.
So the question remains how do you transition into fall seamlessly?
One of the ways I have discovered is by starting to introduce what we think of as “fall” essentials, but keeping it fun with summer pieces. Example below- lightweight printed woven top, light wash jeans, and booties. I rolled the denim, much like what I did this summer when wearing sandals and threw on a fun hat (which we are totally loving for fall!). I really love the play on materials with this outfit. The hat is wool, booties are suede, and the top is silk. If you are not ready to commit to fall (and you totally DO NOT have to be) try mixing in your summer pieces with your basic fall favorites!
We’re doing a little different WAiSTEDD Wednesday today in so that we’re sharing some of our favorite affordable wines easily found at your local grocery store. I guess you could call this a literal “Wasted Wednesday”- although it’s ill advised considering (sighs) it’s still Wednesday. Our best advice would be to try out these wines on Friday night with your girls. A fun idea would be to get together at someone’s house and each bring a bottle of wine and their favorite food to pair it with. You could even decorate your own wine glasses- um, so cute.
I really, really use to hate wine. Like really. I thought it tasted horribly. But both my parents are complete winos- so I hoped one day, I may actually “understand the underlying flavors” they frequently raved about. Well Mom (hope you’re reading)- the day has come- I have found wine which I can appreciate, I’m on your level!!! Today, we will only cover Red & White wines- on a later day we can cover the sweeter categories, which are always fun. Check out our favorite Zins & Pinots below- all of which can be found at your local grocery store for under 15$. If you are at a Safeway, Pavillions or Vons- you’re able to buy 6 bottles at a discounted price. Happy Wining!!!!
Biased Towards: Zinfandels
I like Zins over say a Cab or Merlot because they are much sweeter- to get all wino on y’all- Zins are much more fruity to start off and end with somewhat of a smokey flavor. It’s a really great red wine to start off drinking, if like us, you aren’t totally into wines. Two of my absolute favorites (that are under 13$) are Nanna’s short Cake & OzV. A splurge wine would be the Coppola Directors Cut- it’s excellent- save it for a special occasion such as finishing a school semester or landing that job you’ve always wanted. Must try with a dark chocolate. Yummm
Biased Towards: Pinot Grigio
Pinot Grigio is the essential Summer wine ( I mean unless you’re us and drink it year round because it’s just that good). It truly is a light and refreshing drink that goes so well with a summer salad. We love how easy and fresh it is. Pinot Grigio is another great wine to start with if you’re not that into wine because it’s not overpowering nor is it dry. This is a definite wine to try with your girls- spoil yourselves with the Santa Margherita- it’s around 18$ but SO WORTH it.
Let us know what you think & if you have any other suggestions!! Enjoy the rest of your week and hopefully you can try out some of our picks over the weekend!
